When you begin to prepare for Post Production Audio, your audio editor will most likely ask for the following things: video for reference, audio files, and an AAF of your timeline. Below is a list detailing what I ask my clients for.

Preferred Specs

Video:

File format: .mov

Codec: Apple ProRes 422 or h264

Dimensions: ≤ 1920x1080 (anything above this resolution is overkill and takes up too much processing power)

A head (2 sec before first frame) and tail (2 sec after last frame) 2-Pop in the timeline must be included for syncing purposes.

Video should come with a burnt-in timecode in lower or upper thirds. If you have burnt-in sound cues, please ensure these do not overlap with timecode.

Kindly ensure the frame rate of your video matches the frame rate of the exported OMF / AAF sequence(s).

Please include original unmixed audio in video to use as reference.

*Picture must be locked to start mixing

*VFX must be locked before any Foley work can be done

Audio:

An Embedded .AAF (with 10sec handles)or Embedded .OMF (with 10sec handles)

Audio Resolution: .wav, 48kHz, 32bit float or 24bit

Please include 10 sec handles on your audio (240 frames @ 23.976, 300 @ 29,97)

Embedded OMF2.0 file types have a file size limit of 2GB. If your project’s audio assets are larger than this size, please split the project by acts/breaks or tracks.

If the first audio region in your timeline does not start right at one hour, please make a note about this during delivery.

Other Accepted Specs

Video file format: .mp4, .avi, .mxf

Audio: Refenced .AFF, Refenced .omf or Protools session .ptx

*If you reference your .AAF or .OMF, you must provide a folder to the associated audio files.
